FAQ
Answers to common questions about how Deepen Canvas works, what it’s for, and how we handle your data.
Each node on the canvas is a chat. You can drag, resize and connect them as you go.
- Start with a root chat for your main question or brief.
- Use “Deepen” to branch any reply into a focused child thread.
- Rearrange nodes to see relationships and keep key answers in view.
- Infinite canvas with parent/child links between chats.
- Canvas‑level prompt that sets goals, tone and constraints for every branch.
- Per‑chat summaries so you can scan a canvas quickly.
- Import/export canvases as JSON and export as Markdown.
- Built‑in templates for common workflows (strategy, research, writing).
When you deepen a reply, the new child chat keeps a visual link to its parent and starts from the selected text, plus any canvas prompt you’ve set.
- Each chat maintains its own conversation history and summary.
- Summaries update automatically as threads evolve so you can skim a canvas.
- A slim progress line in the Context header shows how close that chat is to its next automatic summary refresh, so you can see at a glance when context will be updated again.
- The parent/child edges help you navigate back to the source of a branch without copying context manually.
There are three ways to bring external context into Canvas:
- CSV/PDF drag‑and‑drop: drop a `.csv` or `.pdf` file onto a chat input to generate a compact preview (CSV: columns + up to the first 100 rows, ~1 MB; PDF: extracted text, up to 10 MB; both trimmed to ~8,000 characters) that can be used as one‑turn context for that question.
- Markdown: Canvas renders Markdown‑style formatting in messages and lets you export an entire canvas as Markdown. Imports are JSON‑based today; Markdown is for readable exports.
- HTML/URLs: when you opt in to “use as context” for a URL, we fetch a text‑only view of the page (ignoring scripts/styles), with size limits, to keep prompts fast and safe.
These tools are meant for focused research snippets, not bulk data ingestion. For very large datasets or documents, we recommend curating smaller extracts before bringing them into a canvas.
Refunds granted under our Terms are processed within up to 10 business days from the date your withdrawal request is confirmed.
Submit refund requests exclusively through the in‑app contact form by choosing "Other" and writing "Refund request" in the message, and identify yourself with your account email. Requests sent by email, chat, or other channels are not processed.
Banks, card networks, or processors may add time, so funds can take up to 14 business days to appear. Access is cancelled immediately once a withdrawal is confirmed.
We may apply soft limits to protect service quality (for example, maximum canvas size or request rate), but the goal is to support serious, long‑running work rather than short toy examples.
If you routinely hit limits as part of legitimate work, reach out and we’ll explore options.
The canvas prompt is a brief that applies to every chat on that canvas. It tells the model how to behave (goals, tone, constraints) so you don’t have to repeat yourself in each message.
When you update the canvas prompt, new replies will follow the updated behavior, while existing content stays unchanged for traceability.
Subscribers can create canvases from pre‑structured templates via the Templates tab in the Canvas library:
- Product strategy canvas
- Research & analysis canvas
- Writing & synthesis canvas
- Long‑form essay canvas
We treat your canvases as private by default. Data is stored securely and used to provide the Canvas service itself (saving, loading, improving the product experience), not for unrelated advertising.
As we evolve Canvas, we'll continue to document how data flows and what controls you have over it. If you ever need a copy of your data, use the in-app contact form from Canvas and choose the "My Data (account export)" option so we can link the request to your signed-in account.
When you request an account export, we generate a structured JSON file with your canvases, snapshots, subscription metadata and feedback, then email you a time-limited download link. That link typically works for about a week; after that, the export file is automatically cleaned up from storage.
